Proposals to build a five-storey apartment complex in Eastbourne town centre go in front of councillors next week.
On Tuesday (November 12), Eastbourne Borough Council’s planning committee will consider proposals to demolish the disused multi-storey car park in Junction Road, near the station, and build 101 apartments.
The proposed development, recommended for approval by council planning officers, would be lower than the existing building.
In a report to the committee, a council planning spokesman said: “The proposal would result in development of a brownfield site and the creation of good quality residential accommodation in a highly sustainable location close to transport links and the amenities of Eastbourne town centre.”
“The proposed development has been designed to a high standard and will provide a good level of accommodation for future occupiers. There will be no detrimental impacts to the occupiers that surround the site and the development will improve the visual amenity of the area.“
While recommended for approval, the proposed development has attracted opposition from some neighbours, primarily due to concerns about parking spaces for residents.
The development would include 60 unallocated parking spaces, five blue badge parking spaces and 185 cycle parking spaces. Objectors have argued this is insufficient for the number of apartments.
Objectors have also raised concerns about overlooking neighbouring properties and loss of privacy.
The finished building is likely to comprise 27 one-bedroom flats, 64 two-bedroom flats and ten three-bedroom flats.
All flats will have access to a private balcony or terrace, as well as a landscaped communal area, which would surround the building.
